Sixty Plus is a registered charity (number 1035607) based in Kensington and Chelsea. The charity was set up in 1994 to support older people in the Borough and its surrounding areas to maintain their independence. With the help of over 150 volunteers who range in age from 16 to 84, we are able to offer that little bit of help which enables many older people to remain living at home for longer. Because we use volunteers, all of our services are free of charge reflecting the large number of our members who are on means-tested benefits. |

| Our services are as diverse as our volunteers and include volunteer visiting, telephone befriending, practical help –such as escorts to appointments or taking down curtains, escorted shopping trips and helping maintain people's gardens. Our Intergenerational Project employs young volunteers as readers for visually impaired older people, as computer coaches for housebound older people and as language coaches for older people who have little spoken English and who wish to practice. Sixty Plus was one of the first organisations to be awarded Approved Provider Status by the Centre for Intergenerational Practice. In December 2005, our young volunteers' achievements were recognised by a Philip Lawrence Award. 'Health Wise', our health promotion project works at neighbourhood level promoting healthy ageing through workshops and information led by health professionals, and through the use of Well-Being Supporters who provide time-limited mentoring and peer support. It focusses on the conditions that affect older people most and aims to tackle health inequalities through information and facilitating access to local services. Well-being for Life, an annual Health Fair led by Sixty Plus, brings together all of the key organisations involved in promoting healthy living among older people in Kensington and Chelsea. This yearthe event was sponsored by CareUK and attracted over 500 visitors. Exhibitors included professionals from the PCT providing information and health checks, local gyms and leisure services, local and national charities like Open Age and RNID, social services and other council departments. The Health Fair also included a range of alternative therapists who gave their time for free as well as Waitrose who provided advice on nutrition. We produce a quarterly newsletter which is distributed to all our members and contacts across the Borough. The newsletter is full of information about Sixty Plus and news about what is happening in Kensington and Chelsea. The Sixty Plus Guide is the directory to services for older people in Kensington and Chelsea. The Guide is available to download here free of charge.
